Overview

The Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences seeks a post-doctoral fellow to support work with the EuCanImage consortium. Funded by the European Commission, this position will help build a federated, secure and scalable European imaging platform to support advanced research in distributed machine learning in support of cancer radiomics. This exciting effort is coupled with ongoing research in cancer imaging informatics and a second federated machine learning research project, both funded by the US National Cancer Institute.

This position offers collaborative and independent research opportunities working with Dr. Fred Prior, chair of the department and Principal Investigator. The major responsibilities include: conceptualizing research questions, analyzing data, preparing manuscripts suitable for publication in leading journals, collaborating with Principal Investigators in the department and the research networks we have joined, preparing proposals for external funding, and responding to RFPs. The successful candidate will lead and/or work closely with interdisciplinary staff, faculty and student research teams in all aspect of research. This position is a two-year appointment.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate would play a key role in the EuCanImage program working with colleagues at 20 European sites on distributed data management, data curation (using tools developed in our department) and distributed machine learning for radiomics. The candidate would play a supporting role in a federated machine learning for pathomics project funded by the US National Cancer Institute and make use or UAMS’s extensive cancer image data collection and expanding high performance computing resources (funded by a new National Science Foundation grant) to explore an area of radiomics research of their choosing. There will also be opportunities to teach as part of a team in our graduate program in imaging informatics.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

· Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, Biomedical Engineering or a related field by the position’s start date

· Solid research record with a focus on radiology or pathology image analysis

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Ability to work collaboratively and as part of an international team

· Strong knowledge of medical imaging and quantitative image analysis

· Experience and interest in machine learning techniques applied to image

 

Analysis

· Strong programming experience in languages frequently used in scientific computing, especially for high performance computing and image analysis (Matlab, C++) and managing or converting scientific data (e.g., Python)

· Domain knowledge in medical imaging and biomedical research
